Obituary of M. Johnson

M. Delores Barrow Johnson, 88, of Jerseyville formerly of Roodhouse died Thursday, July 5, 2018 at her residence. She was born November 19, 1929 in Manchester, the daughter of Elbert and Bernice Howard Barrow. She married Charles Leonard Smock, February 21, 1948 and he preceded her in death February of 1960. To this union was born two sons; Charles R. (Diana) Smock of Jerseyville, and Harry L. Smock of Springfield. She later married Gene C. Patterson February 10, 1961 and he preceded her in death in March of 1993. To this union was born a son whom preceded her in death, November 1966; Leland Gene Patterson; and a daughter who survives; Leah Jean Patterson Heitman of St. Clair, MO.

She is also survived by four grandchildren; Charles Smock, Karee Mills-Smock, Erik (Lauren) Heitman, Matthew (Jen) Heitman; six great grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Coonrod of Alton.  She is also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Barrow.

Delores worked at Kordite in Jacksonville for many years. She worked at the Roodhouse City Hall for a number of years, and was a member of the Roodhouse Police Auxillary. She was a stanch supporter of the Democrat Party.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse, with burial at Fernwood Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
