Obituary of Dorothy Carl

Dorothy Carl, 91, of Jacksonville, died Friday, August 17, 2018, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville.  She was born September 10, 1926, in Chicago, the daughter of Chester and Grace Fitzgerald Weed.  She married Richard Lee Carl on June 30, 1945, in Chicago, and he preceded her in death on November 13, 2014.

Dorothy is survived by three children, David (Rachel) Carl of Rochester, Minnesota, Daniel Carl of Jacksonville, and Kathleen (Martin) Borman of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Michael Carl of Rochester, Minnesota, Stacey (Matt) Vaniter, Nick (Jen) Carl, and Kurt (Samantha) Borman, all of Jacksonville, and Alicia (Brett) Little of Chesterfield, Michigan; and eight great-grandchildren, Brexton and Broc Borman, Callan, Jayse, and Britton Vaniter, Raegyn and Liam Little, and Waylon Carl.  Dorothy was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Amanda Kay Borman, one great-granddaughter, Abigail Borman, one sister, Marion DuBrock, and three brothers, Edward, Donald, and Richard Weed.

Dorothy worked alongside her husband for many years at their business, Carl’s Garage, on the corner of West Beecher and South West Street.  She was also one of the first teacher’s aides in Jacksonville, working at South Jacksonville School in the early 1960’s.  She later worked as a dispatcher for the Senior Citizen’s Bus.  Dorothy was a longtime member of the Church of Our Saviour.  She enjoyed bowling and fishing and loved to see her great-grandchildren participate in countless fishing tournaments in Jacksonville throughout the years.  Above all else, Dorothy loved her family.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery.  The family will meet friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the Amanda Kay Borman Library Memorial at South Jacksonville School.  Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
