Obituary of Donald Snow

 

            Donald “Don” Eugene Snow, 69, of Jacksonville, died of complications from Parkinson’s Disease and dementia, on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.  He was born on October 9, 1948, one of four boys.  Don graduated from Hillsboro High School with the Class of 1966.  He enlisted in the United States Army in 1968 and served in Indiana, Georgia, and for 22 months in Germany, with his wife.

            He married Vicky Perkins on July 20, 1969, in Vandalia, and she survives.  He started at the Hillsboro Power Plant (CIPS) in March of 1972 and retired from Ameren IP after 38 years of service.  He worked at the Newton Power Plant, Central Office in Springfield, and the Meredosia Power Plant until retirement.  He worked in power plant construction, budgeting, and cost accounting positions.

            Mr. Snow is survived by his wife, Vicky, of 49 years.  He is also survived by three children, Shari (Mark) Ballard of Ripley, TN, Shelley (Tony) Petre of Macon, MO, and Jason (Naomi) Snow of Overland Park, Kansas.  He was the grandfather of six, Luke and Elizabeth Ballard, Liam, Colin, and Owen Snow, and Ainsley Petre.  Preceding him in death were his parents, 3 brothers, Chet, Ben and Bob, and an infant sister.

            Don loved to go deer hunting and fishing.  He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals  and Illini Basketball.  His greatest love was his wife, children, and grandchildren.  Don was a great man of God and loved his Lord and served him faithfully as a church board member, Royal Rangers Leader, Sunday School Teacher, and usher.  Don was loved by all who knew him, was a very conscientious worker, honest and loyal.  There was not a finer man than Don Snow.  He was proud of his children, grandchildren, and their accomplishments.

            A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at the Jacksonville Assembly of God, with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 12 Noon-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Jacksonville Assembly of God.
