Obituary of Charlie Kaufmann

 

            Charlie Kaufmann, 67, of Jacksonville passed away Thursday evening, August 30, 2018 at Passavant Area Hospital. He was born July 16, 1951 in Jacksonville the son of Frank M. and Charlene Lonergan Kaufmann. He married Barbara Bergschneider on January 2, 1971 at the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville and she survives.

He is also survived by 5 sons, Justin Kaufmann and Brent (Amy) Kaufmann both of Jacksonville, Chris Kaufmann of Springfield, Jeremy (fiancé, Jamie Johnson) Kaufmann of Jacksonville and Josh (Cassie) Kaufmann of Springfield; 6 grandchildren, Nolan, Avery, Sydney, Colton, Makenna and Magnolia; his mother, Charlene Kaufmann of Jacksonville; 4 brothers, Jim (Linda) Kaufmann of Springfield,  and Frank (Jamie) Kaufmann, Tom (Amy) Kaufmann and Joe (Beth) Kaufmann all of Jacksonville; 6 sisters, Peg (Reg) Coon of Winchester, Kathy (Dave) Kording of Eau Claire, WI, Theresa (Tom) Luber of Jacksonville, Patty (Lew) Hamburger of Tucson, AZ, Ann (Jerry) Mullen of Wildwood, MO and Amy Kaufmann of Jacksonville and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Kaufmann and two sisters, Karen York and Ann Frances Kaufmann.

Charlie had been employed at GTE for many years and later was an owner the Irish Toad in Jacksonville for over 20 years. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the Church of Our Saviour. He was an avid fan of Routt, Notre Dame the University of Illinois and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a kind-hearted man who never knew a stranger. He will be remembered for his outgoing personality, contagious laugh and infectious smile.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at Calvary Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Williamson Funeral Home. A prayer service will be conducted at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
