Obituary of Robert Jackson

Robert W. “Bob” Jackson, 87, of Jacksonville, died Monday, September 10, 2018, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville.  He was born March 14, 1931, in Jacksonville, the son of Wiley and Rose Flynn Jackson.  He married Helen Hermes on May 26, 1956, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Berlin, and she survives.

Bob is also survived by three children, Mary Jo (deceased husband, David) Sherman of Paris, Texas, David (Diana) Jackson of Jacksonville, and Susan (Scott) Hunt of Ladue, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Kathleen Humphrey of Paris, Texas, William Sherman and Rose Sherman, both of Iowa, Matthew Jackson and Sarah Jackson, both of Winchester, and Haley Hunt and Holly Hunt, both of Ladue, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, and siblings Louise (deceased husband, Jim) Angelo, Albert (Carolyn) Jackson, and Agnes (Ralph) Johnson, all of Jacksonville, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Bob was preceded in death by two infant sons, David William Jackson and Timothy Gerard Jackson, and one brother Russell (deceased wife, Marie) Jackson.

Bob spent his lifetime as a grain and livestock farmer, first in Scott County and later purchased farmland in Morgan County.  He was raised on a farm and was taught to work hard as a child.  After graduating from high school, Bob was drafted into service, serving in the United States Army in Korea during the Korean War from 1952-54.  He returned from the war to his life on the farm and never left.  Bob was a longtime member of the Church of Our Saviour, and a member of the Farm Bureau and VFW.  He loved being at home, Oliver tractors, and listening to country music, but most of all he loved his family and his faith.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 14, 2018, at Church of Our Saviour, with burial and military rites at Calvary Cemetery.    The family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Williamson Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be conducted at 4:45 p.m. Thursday.  Memorials are suggested to Church of Our Saviour or Routt Catholic High School.  Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
