Obituary of Marjorie Blacketer
Marjorie I. Blacketer, 92, of Quincy and formerly of Summer Hill, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Sunset Home in Quincy.
She was born May 6, 1926, the daughter of James and Stella Payton Grimsley. She married Carl H. Blacketer on May 29, 1942 in Palmyra, Mo and he preceded her in death on April 23, 2004.
She is survived by her children, Thelma McGraw of New Salem, Carl (Wanda) Blacketer of Pittsfield, James (Darlene) Blacketer of Coatsburg, Daniel Blacketer of Pittsfield and Preston Blacketer of Pleasant Hill; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Griffeth of Pittsfield; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Lilly Wilcox, Martha Ogle, Clara Brobst, Marie Moellring and Mary Pitzer; and three brothers, Pete, Whitey and Owen Grimsley.
Ms. Blacketer was a member of New Hartford Christian Church. She provided home healthcare services for the Pike County Health Department and had also been employed by Brown Shoe Factory and Illini Hospital, both in Pittsfield. Marjorie could always be seen with a smile on her face. She loved being a caregiver and reading medical books and her Bible. She enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles and working on crafts, especially sewing and quilting.
A funeral service will be held 11 AM Monday, October 1, 2018 at New Hartford Christian Church with burial at Samuel Taylor Cemetery, near Rockport. Family will meet friends from 2 to 4 PM Sunday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Memorials are suggested to New Hartford Christian Church or Alzheimer’s Association.
