Obituary of Margaret Butler
Margaret Butler, 96 of Pittsfield passed away Tuesday evening October 2, 2018 at Eastside Health Care. She was born April 24, 1922 in Pittsfield the daughter of Winfred and Lillie Lanhum Hall. She married Wayne Butler July 26, 1942 in Troy, Missouri, and he preceded her in death on August 9, 2006. Also preceding her in death was her daughter Linda Goodwin (surviving husband Bill Goodwin of Payson) infant son Billy Wayne Butler, sisters Betty Graham and Marie Powell, brothers Richard Hall and William Hall.
Margaret graduated from Pittsfield High School. She was a woman who enjoyed learning and was always open to trying something new. This was evident in her many jobs she held at different times in her life. These include working at Brown Shoe Factory, Illini Hospital, doing proof-reading work, selling Fuller Brush and working at various local restaurants. She found her passion later in life when she studied to get her real estate sales license. This led to a career in real estate that spanned over 40 years and allowed her the opportunity to work at several real estate agencies. Even at the age of 90 she took and passed the state of Illinois broker license test. She could talk real estate for hours and she loved helping people find their home. Having the first ever garage sale in Pike County many years ago was a highlight for her. She loved telling that story to everyone! That was the beginning of a long life of enjoying having and going to garage sales. Her daily life revolved around helping manage the family farm, working diligently to provide a loving and comfortable home for her family and caring for anyone who needed a helping hand. She was a faithful lifetime member of Pittsfield Assembly of God. She loved God, her husband and her family and that was evident to anyone who was lucky enough to know her.
Surviving are sons Dan (Ginny) Butler of Tucson, AZ, Kevin (Suzie) Butler of Detroit and her daughter Mickie (Steve) Kinney of Adel, IA, 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and her brother Wendell (Donna) Hall of Pittsfield.
