Obituary of Virgie Heriford

Virgie F. Heriford, age 95, of Waverly, Il. died Wednesday morning (October 10, 2018) at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Jacksonville, Il.

She was born November 10, 1922 near Waverly, Il. daughter of the late Edward E. and Gertrude Bailey Brown.

She married Dale R. Heriford on August 9, 1943 in New London, Mo. and he preceded her death on August 12, 2001.

Surviving are two sons, Gary Heriford wife Brenda of Pekin, Il., and Rodney Heriford, wife Nancy of Waverly, Il.; one daughter, Loretta Middleton, husband Gary of Jacksonville, Il.; eight grandchildren, Brent Penner wife Kalli, Jason Penner wife Crystal, Todd Heriford wife Melissa, Devin Heriford wife Tara, David Heaton wife Stacey, Britney Dugger husband Todd, Cheynne Gaillard and Lakota Constant husband Casey; step-grandchildren, Becky Christian husband Charlie, Mindy Middleton, and Lori Thompson husband David; twenty-one great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Burnell husband John of Summerfield, Fl., and Evelyn Johnson of Santa Maria, Ca.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson, Blake Penner; six sisters, Frances Green, Louise Jeffers, Mildred Roberts, Leona Piercy, Norma Fletcher, Josephine Druktenis; and five brothers, John, Edward, Robert, Leonard, and Herman Brown.

Virgie was a graduate of Waverly High School in 1941. She worked for Points Grocery Store in Waverly, Il. and worked for the Illinois State Fair as an assistant supervisor in floriculture and culinary.  She loved making dinners for her family, playing cards, working cryptograms, quilting, coffee shop friends and was an avid Waverly sports fan.  She as a member of New Life Baptist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. in Jacksonville, Il. and the American Legion Auxiliary in Waverly, Il.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday (October 13, 2018) at Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly, Il.  Burial be in Waverly East Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to Waverly Rescue Squad or New Hope Baptist Church both c/o Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, 349 Tanner, Waverly, Il. 62692.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.airsman-hires.com.
